Portfolio prior to 6th grade art

Do you encourage making a portfolio for your 5th graders, to take with them to show their 6th grade art teacher? Do you keep everything you made or selective art work indicating experience/exposure to mediums, techniques and subject? And do you as a 6th grade middle school art teacher "expect" a portfolio?

I don't keep a portfolio per se, but I do upload the majority of my students' artwork on Artsonia. The sixth grade teacher can see their work there.
