I am looking for a website that would have articles about art topics (such as self portraits), or about artists (who created self portraits), that would be appropriate for elementary reading levels. I wanted to start using some articles about artists for students to read about to help expand a lesson.

My schedule includes teaching 5 kindergarten classes. Class time is only one half hour a week. They meet with me on a rotating basis so I only see each class once every five weeks. Do you have successful lessons to share that can be completed in a half hour and do not involve adult-made templates?

Do you encourage making a portfolio for your 5th graders, to take with them to show their 6th grade art teacher? Do you keep everything you made or selective art work indicating experience/exposure to mediums, techniques and subject? And do you as a 6th grade middle school art teacher "expect" a portfolio?

The subject will be reading and developing lessons based on the Caldecott picture books.

I have no problem helping teachers with ideas, lending supplies, collaborating, and giving advice but I can’t help feeling agitated being asked to draw or make something for a teacher. My reply is that I do not have time…please post here how you handle saying no.

The other student is more musically inclined and can't focus on anything art related at all. I'm at a loss with what to do with these boys that is actually worthwile. Advice?

As a fairly new art teacher, I continue to find challenges in fitting everything in during my one 45-minute art class each week. How do you do it? It's especially a challenge for me if we're doing something that requires a lot of prep and clean up time (paint, clay, printmaking).

I've been working on figuring out ways to organize art work for students -- one of the challenges is no name on projects. I have always had table folders and all students at that table just put their projects in, but then if they don't put their names on, it can be an issue. What do you do?
