Elementary [1st-5th] Lesson Plan

Torn Paper Winter Landscape

Created on November 09, 2013 by MrsImpey

Students will create a winter collage using only paper, glue and markers. I use this as a way to review landscape. I teach in a low income district so it is also a good way to review and remind students of proper winter attire that they should be wearing outside in the snow.

Day 1: Discuss different types of winter activities that are good for physical activity to keep health (skiing, snowboarding, snow ball fights, building an igloo, snow shoeing, building a snowman, etc.). Discuss the types of clothing that should be worn outside. Tell students that they must create a winter landscape using only torn paper and glue. They must include themselves in the landscape participating in a physical winter activity of some sort. Start by ripping white paper to create the horizon line / snow, and then students start to rip other paper.

Day 2: Continue collage. Use markers to add details to the collage (face, buttons, etc.).

I love these! They are adorable. I too, see so many students who act like they're part polar bear and wear shorts in the middle of winter.
