CHAMPS Voice Level Chart for the Art Room

Created on August 12, 2014 by KatieMorris

My school district recently started using CHAMPS to teach behavior. The voice level chart aligns with the CHAMPS approach and uses paintings from Art History to illustrate each level. The file is Microsoft Word (11x17 inches)so you can customize the wording and print.

Nice poster! I have never heard of CHAMPS. Is it helpful?

I think it is helpful. It stands for Conversation, Help, Activity, Movement, Participation, and Successful students. Basically you "CHAMP" an activity and explicitly teach how loud they can talk and to whom, how to ask for help (raising hands, asking classmate, etc.), if they can move out of their seats and how to do that, what participation looks like, and if they do all of those things they will be successful. I "CHAMP"ed entering the room, demos, working on projects, clean up, and leaving the room. The whole school is using the voice level numbers so that seems to be helpful. The students aren't necessarily sticking to the number they're asked to use, but at least when I have to do something about it, they knew the expectation and don't complain.
