Day 1: Show Mondrian power point / introduce Mondrian to students. Pass out Mondrian cube worksheet. Using colored pencils or crayons, students color in the color families and then on the back, practice drawing in lines. They must then choose which color family they want their cube to be colored in.
Day 2: Demonstrate how to roll a slab and how to cut out 6 squares using the template. I show students how to bevel the edges with a clay knife at a 45 degree angle, score and slip them together. Once they have all been attached, you smooth the corners and use a needle tool to put a hole through the wall of the cube.
Day 3: Students finish putting their cubes together. Show them how to use a ruler and needle tool to draw the horizontal and vertical lines to create the geometric squares.
Day 4-5: Set up glazes at different tables in the color families (primary, secondary, warm, cool, complementary). Students fill in the lines using the black glaze writers. They then paint the squares in with glaze. To make squares white, simply use a clear glaze.
