Value Painting Self Portraits

Students take pictures of themselves (or you can take). Students print out a full-size picture of themselves on photocopy paper. Students paint value-based portraits of themselves directly onto the photocopy.

    I do a slight modification of this with my high school painting class. I call it Celebrity Pop Art and we use the cut out filter in Photoshop to simplify the image before printing in grey values. It looks like you have them keep it monochromatic and I like the effect. My students get the choice of any one color harmony/scheme that would show the celebrities personality.

    I like the samples you have and I would be happy to see your students come into my classroom because I would know they are prepared to make art.
