Students will learn about Jim dine and see examples of his hearts. They will explore and practice using water based oil pastels, and then create their own hearts.

THE PLAN
3 sessions; 35 minutes per session

1.swbat understand how to create movement
2. Swbat use at least 3 techniques with the oil pastels
3. Swbat recognize Jim dines heart paintings

1. Paper
2. Water based oil pastels
3. Paint brush and water

Day one
1. Students will explore and play with the oil pastels
2. Practice
Blending 2 colors
Laying one color on top of another
Using water to create different values and watercolor look
After the painted area is dry, add more detail
3. Discuss your results, what worked well? What did you learn?

Day 2
Intro Jim dine art and hearts
Students will use contrasting colors and create their own heart paintings using the techniques they learned

Day 3
Finish and some can add tempera paint to create patterns or lines to create movement

Art chat. What was your favorite part? What did you learn about oil pastels?
