1. Intro
-assess students' prior knowledge of emojis (they probably know more than we do)
-explain that emojis are graphics that communicate an emotion or idea in texts or social media
2.Explain assignment
-Create an emoji that does not yet exist (not a copy of one you've seen before)
-The emoji should have a specific emotion or purpose
-Explain that the emojis we create will not actually be functional since real emojis are coded, but we will practice the design portion.
3.Start designing
-It's a good idea to sketch first
-Some students are more comfortable scanning and digitizing their sketches
-It works well to design the emoji using shape tools in photoshop.
4. Show context
-When emoji designs are complete, students should visually show the context in which they would be used
-This can be achieved with a website such as http://iphonefaketext.com or by designing a "screen shot" in photoshop.

1. Students and the teacher will assess the work using the attached rubric.
