1.Pinch pot demonstration
-Form red clay into a ball
-Poke thumb into center of ball
-Begin to pinch the clay from the center to the edge, rotating to open and enlarge
-Even out the rim and smooth the surfaces
-Change the shape of the pot from a circle to something else if you wish
2.Students form their pinch pots.
3.Use soft brushes to apply an even coat of white slip to surface of pinch pot
-Do not brush back and forth, dip brush into slip and apply in one direction
-If you brush the slip back and forth it can start to mix with the red clay decreasing the contrast between the colors
4. Students slip pots
-whole surface or just part
5. Sgraffito
-After the slip has set up (usually in a day or two) scratch or carve a design into the surface of the pinch pot
6. Firing/Glazing
-Bisque fire
-clear glaze
-glaze fire

I used this as a skill building activity so that students would learn the techniques and be able o apply them later to more complicated projects.
