Launch/Warm Up:
Students will watch a how-to video on drawing koi fish.

Instructional Steps:
Students will practice the basic form of a koi fish in their sketchbooks. Then, students will move to a bigger piece of paper and draw a detailed sketch of a koi fish (or two… or three). Students will then draw symbols to create a border. Then, students will apply patterns to the koi fish, replacing scales with patterns.

Wrap-Up:
Tables will come together to critique each other’s sketches.

Students will turn in their sketches and will have chosen a final design.
