Fauvist Style Landscape

Student will learn about the fauvist movement and create their own fauvist-style landscape painting.

THE PLAN
6 sessions; 45 minutes per session

1.SWBAT create a fauvist style landscape
2. SWBAT explain how using arbitrary colors can impact the mood of a painting

1. Scholastic Art Magazine "The Fauves" from Sept/Oct 2006
2. Sketchbooks
3. Pencils
4. Canvas panels
5. Acrylic paint

Need these materials? Visit Blick!

1. Read and discuss the first 3 articles in Scholastic Art magazine.
2. Have students design 3 options for a landscape in their sketchbook using fauvist qualities (paper divided in 1/2, simplified but interesting details both above and below horizon line).
3. After idea is approved, draw it onto canvas panel and outline in black acrylic paint.
4. Review basic color theory
5. Plan out colors in sketchbook
6. Paint landscape
7. Fill out assessment sheet
