THE PLAN
• Students will be able to describe the characteristics of Pointillism.
• Students will be able to use a cotton swab to apply paint in the style of Pointillism
• Students will be able to create a landscape with elements in the foreground, middle ground, and background.

• Georges-Pierre Seurat – Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte
• 9”x12” white drawing paper
• Pencils
• Erasers
• Watercolors
• Cotton swabs
• Water cups

1. Teacher introduces the work of Georges Seurat by showing an image of Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, 1884 – 1886.
2. Teacher explains how Seurat applied dots of paint to create solid areas.
3. Teacher demonstrates technique of applying dots of watercolor paint to paper using cotton swab.
4. Teacher shows finished sample to clarify objectives.
5. Teacher distributes supplies, possibly with student help.
6. Students create a landscape with elements in the foreground, middle ground, and background.
