1. Introduction
-The teacher will explain that we will be spending some time learning about text, one of the pillars of graphic design.
2. Practice
-The teacher will push the students to start thinking of different styles for the same character, and give the class 5 minutes to sketch as many different styles of either an exclamation mark or a question mark as they can come up with.
3. Inspiration
-The students will cut samples of fonts they like from magazines (10 minutes) and work together to sort the text into styles or groups they determine.
4. Assignment
-Explain to students that they will design one letter many ways.
-Students make 20 thumbnail sketches
-Narrow to the best 12 designs
-Digitize the letters by drawing larger, tracing with sharpie, and scanning, or make directly in computer with graphics tablet or mouse
-Make each letter a separate layer in Photoshop
5. Demonstration- change color of text
- Use magic wand tool to select negative space of letter, select similar, select inverse
-Use paintbrush to paint selected area chosen color which will make it more solid
6. Demonstration- grid
-In photoshop, go to view then select grid
-Repeat view, ruler
-Click the rulers with the arrow tool, drag sideways or down to create lines your selections will snap to
-Adjust lines by clicking and dragging
7. Students work
-Plan and implement composition using grid
-Create a color scheme
-Strive for sense of rhythm, unity with colors, variety of shapes/lines

This project could be completed totally on paper if technology is not available.
