1. A class discussion about constellations using videos and websites on the internet.

2. Have students come up with their own constellations. Include 6 "fictional" facts about them on a sheet of paper.

3. On a sheet of cardstock paint a night sky. It can be a dark blue that fades into a bright blue. Just keep it simple.

4. Using another sheet of cardstock sketch out the outline of a city, countryside or even a mountain range that's long enough to cover the bottom of the night sky created in step 3. Then cut it out with scissors and paint it black.

5. When it's dry glue the piece you made in step 4 to the bottom of the night sky created in step 3.

6. Now it's time to create a constellation. On a scrap sheet of paper sketch out some designs of your constellations and pick the one you like the most.

7. Lightly sketch your design onto your night sky. This will act as a guide. Now using a needle & thread/yarn start sewing your constellations on top of your guide. Once completed lightly erase your pencil marks.

8. Attach your sheet with the "fictional" facts to the back of your project.

A fun project for kids to learn about astronomy and to use their imaginations.
