Introduce the concept of Radial balance and pattern by showing students the creation of sand mandalas by buddhist monks. And/or look at kaleidoscope designs.

Teacher gives students a 1/8 pie piece to create a design in. Students should go over pencil lines with sharpie or other dark marker.

Students trace the design 8 times to create a full circle. Students color in design with colored pencils to create a pattern design.

Did students create a full circle radial balance design?

Did students use color to add to the overall design?

I was able to access YouTube to show sand mandala videos and kaleidoscope designs.
