Paper Curl Portraits

Students will create self portraits out of curled strips of paper.

THE PLAN
4 sessions; 30 minutes per session

1. Scissors or paper trimmer

2. Glue

3. Construction paper

4. Tools for quilling (pencils, markers, pens, etc.)

5. Pencil

1. On a sheet of paper students will lightly sketch a portrait of themselves.

2. Begin planning out the shapes and what colors of paper you plan to place on your sketch. Focus on a section of your sketch at a time to keep from feeling overwhelmed.

3. Cut out strips of paper of various widths and colors.

4. Next wrap your strips around your quilling tools. Create curves and different shapes like circles, ovals or even crescent moons.

5. Begin gluing your shapes on top of the sketch. Let the glue dry overnight.
