Tape Paintings

Students will create geometric tape paintings. A fun simple project that produces unique artwork every time no matter the skill level.

THE PLAN
2 sessions; 40 minutes per session

1. SWBAT create geometric tape paintings.

1. Paint (watercolor or acrylic)

2. Tape (painters, masking or artist)

3. Surface to paint on (canvas, watercolor paper, poster board or bristol board)

4. Paint brushes

5. Scissors

6. Newspapers or old towels to protect work surface.

1. Spread newspaper out to work on.

2. Place pieces of tape across your paper at different angles. Using tapes of different widths can give your art a distinctive look.

3. Begin painting each section. Instead of just focusing on solid colors try gradients, patterns and even mini paintings. If students get stuck on what colors / designs to use have them create some thumbnails to help plan things out.

4. After the paint has had time to dry gently remove the tape.
