Students will learn about typography by creating a person using only letters.

THE PLAN
3 sessions; 35 minutes per session

1. SWBAT learn about Graphic design.

2. SWBAT learn about typography.

3. SWBAT create a person using letters.

1. Pencil with eraser

2. White drawing paper

3. Black markers and ink pens

4. Wooden manikins (optional)

5. Props (optional)

1. Students will be introduced to typography and graphic design. They will learn how and why it is used. Students will be shown various examples of typography used in artwork and advertisements.

2. Using wooden manikins students will lightly draw the pose the manikin is in. Instead of manikins students can take turns posing.

3. Begin filling the sketch with letters. Encourage students to make their letters different sizes and even different fonts. Once done go over your letters using a black ink pen or a black marker. Erase any leftover pencil marks.

Allow students to use props to help create interesting poses.
