Teacher introduces concept of tessellations and M.C. Escher.

Teacher demonstrates how to draw three HALF faces in ONE triangle. NOTE: all faces MUST be 'forehead to chin' in order for the overall design to work.

Students draw in three faces - be as creative as possible
Students trace the three faces in one triangle to the other triangle (they must be traced EXACTLY the same)

Teacher makes 12 copies of each diamond. Students cut out diamonds and glue them together to form a large hexagon. Students color the faces and backgrounds with colored pencils and/or markers

Were the students creative in their faces?

Did they follow instructions to create a working tessellation?

Neatness counts! on coloring
