Warm Hearts

Students will create abstract art using only warm colors with watercolor paints. The title of this lesson plan has a double meaning, to encourage people to start caring more for each other.

THE PLAN
1. SWBAT create abstract art using warm colors.

2. SWBAT encourage people to treat each other better.

1. Paper strong enough to handle watercolor paint.

2. Paint brushes

3. Watercolor

4. Masking tape

5. Masking fluid (optional)

6. Pencil

7. Scissors

8. A strong flat surface to tape your paper down to (clipboards works great)

9. Old towels or newspapers to keep work area clean

1. Tape the paper down to your board with masking tape.

2a. Attach pieces of masking tape together to form a sheet then cut it into the shape of a heart. Place your heart near the top right of your paper.
2b.(optional) Near the top right of the paper lightly draw a heart with a pencil. Then cover the the heart with masking fluid. Let dry.

3. Using warm colors (red, yellow and orange) and a really wet brush apply paint all around your heart letting it drip down the paper. (Tilting your board at an angle allows the paint to drip down better.)

4. After the paint has had some time to dry remove the heart shaped masking tape/fluid, and slowly peel off the tape holding your paper down to the board.
