Students learn about texture and practice drawing skills to create an animal with a textured background.

2 sessions; 45 minutes per session

SWBAT define texture
SWBAT define contour line

1. pencil
2. paper
3. crayons or oil pastels
4. black sharpie
5. texture materials
6. how to draw books or hand outs

1. practice drawing different animals from how to draw books or you tube. Draw 4 (about 20 minutes)

2. Pick the drawing you like best, enlarge on big paper.

3. Outline drawing with black sharpie, add patterns and details too.

4. On practice paper, do sample rubbings for texture. Vary colors and materials. Do 10 -15 different ones. (about 20 minutes)

5. Talk about results, what colors worked best? What textures do you like best?

6. Finish the animal drawing by adding texture to the back ground and the animal. Think about contrast.
