THE PLAN
5 sessions; 90 minutes per session

Students create a 'set' of salt and pepper shakers from clay.

Ceramic clay, glaze, kiln, a variety of ceramic tools including 'salt and pepper drill'.

Need these materials? Visit Blick!

Students have already learned basic clay techniques - pinch pot, coil, slab - teacher shows examples of salt and pepper shaker sets and discusses how to build sets with recessed bottoms and holes that will fit specific corks (shrinkage).

Students sketch ideas and plan out a relationship between both pieces.

Students build salt and pepper shakers and discuss creation process with teacher.

Pieces are bisque fired, glazed and fired again.

Is their a relationship between both pieces forming a 'set'?

Are craftsmanship and ceramic process followed and built upon from the previous lesson?
