Students will create a worms eye view of a snowman, while learning about wax resist, watercolor color mixing and creating a shadow on a sphere.

THE PLAN
3 sessions; 40 minutes per session
1. SWBAT recognize the worms eye view
2. SWBAT use wax resist
3. SWBAT mix the primary colors to make the secondary
4. SWBAT shade a circle to look 3D
1. Practice paper
2. Drawing paper 12x18
3. Pencil
4. Black sharpie
5. Liquid watercolors, red, blue and yellow
6. Watercolor brushes
7. Cups for water
8. Colored pencils
3. Paint the picture. I encourage my students to use all the colors on the color wheel, not just blue!
Day 3
1. Demo adding the colored pencil to create a 3D look to the snowman. Talk about where the moon light is coming from and have the shadow on the opposite side. I have students use a light and dark pencil, the dark one goes along the edge and inward, the the light one will overlap slightly and continue outward. They should have 3 VALUES.
2. Art walk. Find another artist who did a great job with the shading.
The art walk is a great way to asses. Ask them to find another artist who made the secondary colors, or who did a good job with the wax resist. I like to ask them to find something they want to try in their artwork next time.
