THE PLAN
3 sessions; 40 minutes per session

1. SWBAT draw an appropriate under water ocean habitat.
2. SWBAT explain what foreshortening is.
3. SWBAT create depth in their art.
4. SWBAT paint correctly with watercolor paint.
5. SWBAT draw texture.

1. Pencils
2. 12x18 watercolor paper
3. Black sharpies
4. Crayons
5. Blue watercolor paint
6. paint brushes
7. water

Need these materials? Visit Blick!

Day 1: Discuss foreshortening. Explain that it is exaggerated depth. Trace feet and hands on paper. Draw body. Look at examples of scuba gear and draw scuba gear on self-portrait.

Day 2: Color everything but the water with crayon.

Day 3: Paint over EVERYTHING with blue watercolor paint.

See attached assessment rubric.

This could also be altered for many projects...falling through a hole (fear/emotion in art), an astronaut in space...etc.

I've traditionally done this with bungee jumpers, but there is better scenery for a scuba diver!

I agree! I did this before as "falling for foreshortening" but I could focus more on background with this project. I plan to do a foreshortening version too in space as astronauts!

I have done this in the past where the students draw themselves as superheroes and create a symbol for their hero to wear. I love this idea too!
