Elementary [1st-5th] Rubric

6-Square Drawing Assessment

Created on March 08, 2013 by MrsImpey

This assessment is what I am currently using for my 1st grade SLO. I give students a piece of drawing paper folded into 6 squares. I give them 5 minutes for each square. I ask them to draw: a rainbow, a fuzzy dog, a flower, a tree, your family and anything you want. The rubric I use to grade this is attached. In 1st grade, I focus on using a horizon line to create simple depth, coloring the entire page, and drawing animals with shapes. We also learn about the rainbow, so this covers a wide range of what I cover in art class. Rubric is attached.

I like this type of simple assessment. It can be differentiated for any grade and group of students.

It definitely can...I just used it for Kindergarten as a filler/sub plan while I was sick. We're going to be doing Monet trees in the four seasons and we just finished a cherry blossom unit where they learned to draw more realistic trees, so their six squares were to draw a fall tree, winter tree, spring tree, summer tree, a flower and a rainbow.

I like this. It is great to use when you are reviewing or in between lessons. Thanks for sharing
