1. Place Newspaper with appropriate pictures/text on all tables.(Provide enough sheets for students to pick a sheet they like)
2. Explain to students that newspaper is an important part of our history. Prior to the internet and television, it's how we knew what was going on in the world.
3. Explain to students they will creatively re-use a piece of history(newspaper) today to create a piece of art.
4. Instruct students to choose a sheet of newspaper which has an image/text that they connect with.
5. Demonstrate for students ways of free creating through the use of various lines, shapes, colors, etc. throughout an abstract piece of art on newspaper.
6. Provide students with an example of a piece which incorporates and responds or adds to a newspaper image. For example, if there is an image of a tree, students could add the sky, plants, animals, etc. to incorporate the newspaper image into their own creation.
7. If students mess up, encourage them to turn their piece into something abstract.

1.Students are assessed through conversation and effective questioning about vocabulary and concepts taught.

This project can go many ways, it's important to encourage students to relate their images to the newspaper piece they have chosen or, to create an abstract piece of art. An important factor for students to understand they can create art out of anything.
