DeBuffet inspired paper sculptures

Students learned about the sculptures of Jean DeBuffet and created a sculpture inspired by his work.

THE PLAN
4 sessions; 45 minutes per session

SWBAT transform 2-d paper into a 3-D sculpture.
SWBAT create a sculpture using the elements of line, shape, color, form and space.

1. 9"x12" white paper ( thin)
2. Pencils
3. Glue sticks
4. Foam core
5. Markers (Red and Blue)
6. Scissors
7. Hot glue gun

1. Students were introduced to the sculptures of Jean Dubuffet.
2. Students were asked to design 4 sheets of thin white paper with linear designs and patterns.
3. Students cut papers into squares and rectangles of various size.
4. Students rolled each piece of paper around a pencil and secured the end with Glue stick.
5. Students used hot glue to assemble all of the cylinders into a sculpture inspired by Dubuffet.

Students filled out a project reflection sheet at the end of this project. Students were asked to list and comment on the elements of art that were used in this project. They also were asked to reflect on any changes they would make if they were to re-do this project.
