Acrylic Color Wheels

Students grow their abilities in craft and color mixing with acrylic paint!

THE PLAN
7 sessions; 55 minutes per session

SWBAT create an acrylic color wheel by mixing primary colors.

1. Brushes
2. Acrylic Paint
3. Palettes
4. Cups
5. Watercolor paper (or comparable substrate)

1. Using any size sheet of paper, students place a centerpoint in a location of their choosing (as long as it is relatively close to the center)

2. Students place a yardstick on their centerpoint, and draw 6 lines through the point and all the way off the paper (creating 6 sections)

3. Students create a center shape of their choosing
—Remind students that they will have to paint whatever they draw
—This will be the white center

4. Students close of each section between yardstick linse with a line/shape of their choosing

5. Students paint equally-spaced primaries first (1 day)

6. For each day following, choose 2 primaries with which students will work; have them complete the secondary and intermediates between a specific set of primaries

7. Students add black to the outside of their color wheels, and white to the inside
