A magazine collage self portrait. A great way to start the semester and get to know your students.

THE PLAN
2 sessions; 60 minutes per session

SWBAT to create a collage that represents their personality.
SWBAT will demonstrate quality craftsmanship in gluing and cutting.
SWBAT demonstrate an understanding of "emphasis".
SWBAT to understand related vocabulary.

1. scissors
2. Elmers Glue All glue or glue sticks
3. Pacon construction paper
4. magazines

1. Show students examples of Romare Beardin's work. Have students complete vocabulary. (30 minutes)
2. Have students select pictures from magazines (see attached Word document for details of what to include)(30 minutes)
3. neatly cut, and arrange pictures on construction paper. Move around to create a pleasing image. (30 minutes)
4. Glue pictures down. (30 minutes)

Students will be assessed using the attached rubric.
