THE PLAN
3 sessions; 60 minutes per session
SWBAT define warm colors.
SWBAT exemplify symmetry.
SWBAT practice cursive writing and block lettering.
SWBAT create a paper collage.
1. Glue
2. Scissors
3. Pencils and erasers
4. Red, Orange and Yellow paper 9 by 12
5. Black paper 12 by 18, trimmed to fit name
6. Cursive and block letter visual resources.
1. Teacher introduces the project, showing student examples.
2. Class reviews warm colors and symmetry.
3. Teacher demonstrates how to create block letters and reviews how to write in cursive.
4. Students practice sketching their name in their sketchbook.
5. Students draw their name on a folded piece of red paper, with a focus on the fold.
6. Students cut out their name, careful not to cut the fold.
7. Students glue their open name symmetry to the orange paper.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for yellow paper.
9. Glue onto a black background.
Did the student exhibit symmetry?
Do they know their warm colors?
Did they use the materials safely and wisely?
Did the student use their time well?
Optional, relate it to aliens or molas and have students write about their artwork.
