A great way to use up scraps of matte board or cardboard or some other stiff flat material!

THE PLAN
4 sessions; 45 minutes per session

SWBAT define shape.
SWBAT define abstract.
SWBAT define collage.
SWBAT design and organize an abstract composition.
SWBAT define rhythm and movement in a composition.

1. Matte Board or Cardboard ( or any stiff material that is easy to cut. scrap pieces work best )
2. Glue
3. Utility Knives
4. Drawing mediums ( to add interest and contrast )
( paint could also be used )

1. Learn about abstract art.
2. Have a conversation about composition and how to use the principles of design to create your composition.
3. Glue together your composition
- be sure to create levels and layer your pieces
4. Using drawing materials or paints you can add visual interest, texture, and contrast to your designs.

Students then present their compositions and give a rational to how their design utilizes the principles of design such as rhythm, movement, and or balance.

Great project to use up scraps of matte board!
Also could be done with foam core, book board, cardboard boxes, or recycled materials like cereal boxes ect.
