1. Lay newspaper down to work on. Since students will be dealing with ink this project can get a little messy.

2. Cut string to desired length.

3. Pour some ink into a small cup. Then dip most of the string into it.

4. Next take your string and lay it across the upper part of your paper making sure some of it overlap each other.

5. Now lay another sheet of paper on top of that and firmly place your hand on it. With your other hand pull the end of the string that wasn't dipped in ink until all of the string is out from in between the two sheets of paper. Remove the top sheet and give the ink time to dry. The smeared ink from the pulled string creates the look of flower petals and stems.

6. Once the ink has had time to dry look at flower that the ink has made. If you feel like anything is missing from it add a few embellishments like leaves with a paint brush dipped in ink. If not, skip this step and go to the next one.

7. Now color your flower with markers, colored pencils or watercolor.

Instead of using just black ink try different colors.
