THE PLAN
2 sessions; 40 minutes per session

SWBAT define contrast

1. drawing paper 12 x 18
2. Oil pastels
3. black tempera paint

1. look at art work from Mel Bochner
2. Talk about contrast
3. fold the paper. To create the grid fold the paper in half, then fold each half into thirds on the 18” side. On the 12” side fold in half, then fold each side in half. You should have 24 squares.
4. Have students color with the side of the pastels each shape that was created by the folds.
5. Fill in each shape with a letter. You can have then put words in first, then fill the rest in with random letters.

Ask them to find contrast in a neighbors art.
