1. Introduction
-explain that product design is a pretty common task for graphic designers
-challenge: use food containers (boxes or cans) as a base and design a new label or box for a product that is not available in a box or can
-doesn’t have to be food, could be something like happiness in a can
2. Demonstration
-measuring can label and layout of flattened box
-creating new document with proportions to match box, 300 poi resolution
-demonstrate how to use rulers in photoshop to plan layout, use text boxes/color/font, layer styles, selection and transformation tools
3. Student work
-choose can or label to measure
-create new document
-brainstorm
-design
-print label, trim, and glue to box or can (if you have big pieces of card stock you can fold that as a stand alone box instead of glueing onto box)

I have students the option of working with a partner or alone.
