Students will learn how to create drawings by first breaking them down into basic shapes such as circles and squares.

THE PLAN
1. SWBAT define shape.

1. Drawing paper

2. Pencil

3. Crayons

4. Markers

5. Tracing paper

1. On a sheet of tracing paper draw a circle, square and triangle etc.

2. Show students photos of various items and using the shapes drawn on the tracing paper ask them which shape it most resemble.

3. Together as a class draw some of the items from the photos starting with a shape on a sheet of drawing paper.

4. Once the students have the hang of it have them draw 3 drawings based off of one shape.

5. As homework or extra credit have students bring from home a few images of items. Using a marker draw on top of the image what shape(s) it most resemble. These can be images printed from the computer or taken from magazines, newspapers or ads.

With practice students will begin to break down an item to its most basic shape, making drawing "anything" much easier.
