Watercolor Crystals

This is a small project to introduce students to watercolors and creating value.

THE PLAN
4 sessions; 50 minutes per session

SWBAT use a ruler to create geometric crystal forms.
SWBAT use watercolors in a variety of values to create a 3-dimensional looking crystal form.
SWBAT explore the used of washes and watercolor.

1. Watercolor paper - 9x12
2. Ruler or straight edge
3. Pencil
4. Watercolor
5. Brush and water

1. Students will use the worksheet or directions on the google slides to draw out their crystals in pencil. The pencil line should be light.
2. Crystals should be drawn in a variety of sizes and directions and take up most of the paper.
3. We will talk about what monochromatic means and students will pick only one color to use for their crystals. They can not use black or brown.
4. After being shown some basic watercolor techniques, students will paint in their crystals using a variety of values. Each section of the crystal should be painted separately and a space should be left in between each section.

Students will be assessed by the attached rubric

Slideshows will be shown for reference

This is a great way for students to get familiar with watercolors before jumping into a big project.
