Collage Landscape

Students will learn to create a landscape collage using torn magazine pieces.

THE PLAN
4 sessions; 60 minutes per session

Students will create a landscape collage using torn magazine pages.

Elements of Art focuses: space, color, value, and texture.

Principles of Design focuses: contrast, balance, movement, proportion/scale, unity, and emphasis.

Tagboard paper 16" x 20"
Magazines
Scissors
Glue
Resource image for inspiration

Student select a landscape image they would like to reference for inspiration; it is strongly encouraged students select an image from a personal travel experience.

Students follow the step-by-step demonstration on how to create a collage using magazines.

After watching the demonstration, students begin sourcing colors from magazines to create their artwork; students place sourced colors into ziplock bags for storage and organization.

Students lightly sketch large portions of their landscape onto tagboard paper.

Students start creating their collage by gluing down torn magazine pieces for their sky/background.

Once their sky/background has been completed, student begin working on their middle ground space.

Students finish their landscape by adding torn magazine pieces to their foreground space.

When glue is dry, students use acrylic paint pens for accent details.
