Multiple Level Lesson Plan

Where would you take Mona Lisa to make her smile?

Created on March 17, 2013 by MrsImpey

A great one-day drawing project for a sub-plan, a filler, or even a way to assess drawing skills (such as craftsmanship, depth, etc.).

This can be used to introduce the Mona Lisa to students, as a filler projects, etc. I used it as a filler project that assessed creativity and craftsmanship. My students already know a little about the Mona Lisa since I use the "sit like the Mona Lisa" prompt in class, but I gave them some interesting facts about the Mona Lisa:

-In 1956, someone threw acid at the bottom of the painting and in the same year, another person threw a rock at her and damaged the paint by her elbow.

-The Mona Lisa is housed in a special case that is made with bullet-proof glass. It is also in a room that is climate controlled. All of these precautions to keep the Mona Lisa safe cost over 7 million dollars to create.

-The Mona Lisa is considered priceless and therefore, cannot be insured.

I really love this lesson. We use the "Mona Lisa" pose to get ready for art, so this would be an excellent tie-in.
