An introduction to Chinese pottery that also incorporates tints & shades and radial symmetry.

THE PLAN
4 sessions; 40 minutes per session

1. SWBAT paint a design that incorporates radial symmetry.
2. SWBAT explain how to mix tints and shades.
3. SWBAT describe the characteristics of Asian art.

1. paper plates
2. tempera paint (blue, white, black)
3. painting supplies
4. pencils
5. Asian art packet
6. Asian power point

Day 1: View power point and fill out notes for Asian pottery. Begin designing plate with radial symmetry on design page.

Day 2-4: Draw out design onto real paper plate. Demonstrate how to mix tints and shades. Discuss what happens to the blue when you add black versus adding white. Paint design.

    Really nice information in the lesson packet. I would love to try this lesson in clay with my 6th graders!
