Picasso Guitars

Students will learn about the life and art of Pablo Picasso. They will focus on Cubism and Abstract Art. The students will create abstract guitars using oil pastels.

THE PLAN
1.Views and discusses selected artworks.
2.Talks about artworks of significant artists that have recognizable subjects and themes.
2.Creates artworks emphasizing one or more elements of art (e.g. color, line, shape, form).
3.Produces drawings that emphasize proportion and/or distortion.

1. Show the class the DVD, “Dropping in on Picasso”. Discuss the life of Picasso and his different paintings.
Emphasize his Cubism and Abstract art, including the many abstract guitars he drew.
2.Students will draw a distorted guitar. Tell them that the more "imperfect" the better. Focus on line, form, and shape.
3.Color the guitars with oil pastels using harmonious bright colors.

Self Assessment/ Critique


Students who don't usually feel comfortable drawing loved this assignment because of the freedom they had making abstract art.
