Multiple Level Lesson Plan

Mondrian Pastels

Created on July 16, 2013 by AwesomeClawson

Students were introduced to Piet Mondrian and his abstract paintings. They then created a geometric design using shape templates. The area was to be filled with shapes then colored in using oil pastels. This is a super simple and quick project that exposes students to a famous artist while using shapes they’ve known all their life. The oil pastels create vibrant colors for their works. We used the Scholastic Magazine about Mondrian and answered questions over his style and life.

Great idea! I do a water sampler when I'm teaching techniques but never thought to tie it to Mondrian. Thanks!
