Ok it's not hard but can be tricky. The key is to have a helper blow drying the ink while you brush on the ink over your oil pastel drawing. Two thin coats should do it. A good soft bristle two inch brush is best and can make all the difference on the look and number of coats.

Was introduced to this tape recently at a book making art teacher workshop. It's great. I've been using masking tape and duct tape but they don't compare. This tape is made for repairing books and is pricier than the alternative but it lasts. Book Repair Tape. By lineco.com.

This is the rubric I use at the end of the first marking period for grade 3 and 4. I don't give grades on individual projects, but rather accumulate information about the student's craftsmanship, creativity and understanding over the course of a unit. I developed this after reviewing all the excellent grading resources on thesmARTteacher! I appreciate any feedback as assessment is a weak point for me.

Students etch their self portrait with a pencil on a square piece of polystyrene foam (I cut them out of those clam shell containers from restaurants). Then the students paint their foam plate with tempera. They have to make at least four prints using the color schemes of primary, secondary, warm, and cool. Students can make ghost prints (printing a second time from the same plate) as well and decide which four prints they like best. Once prints are dry, students tear them to size with a ruler. Label the prints with the print number, title, and name in pencil. Then arrange and glue the four prints to black paper. The prints should resemble Andy Warhol's Monroe prints.
