A lesson designed to inspire my soon to be Year 12 students for their Body of Work. This is a note-taking scaffold for a TED video of Shea Hembrey: a contemporary artist who became 100 artists to put on a Biennale on his own. Link to video is in the document.

I have created a tool that helps students gain drawing skills while also boosting their confidence! I made sketchbooks for my classes’ grade 3 thru 6. The kids really look forward to the challenge and I end up with an ongoing record of student progress. Each day when they come to art they Pick up their sketch book and turn to the page for the day and I start the timer. They have ten minutes for drawing. When the time is up they close the book and go on to their daily lesson.

This is a lesson I use to introduce the idea of atmospheric perspective in a cityscape. We look at pictures and talk about how the smog in a city makes the parts that are far away look hazy. We then construct a cityscape using white tag board and black construction paper and white tissue paper to create the atmospheric effect.

Prezi is like a souped up Powerpoint. If you don't have an account yet, go to prezi.com and set one up. It is free and adds a little oomph to a lesson once in a while. You do not need an account to view this presentation. I used this prezi with 5th and 6th grade as an intro to the art elements.

Using many different teachers' ideas on elementary art classroom procedures, I have compiled a word document of nearly 14 signs. You can take this document to a printing company (like FedEx Office) and have them oversize print them for very cheap. They can, of course, be altered to fit your classroom.
Praise Notes - Positive Reinforcement for Elementary GradesMANAGEMENT ELEMENTARY [1ST-5TH] |

This is a behavior "praise note" to send home with students that went above and beyond. Being that I am on a six-day rotation in an elementary school, I see the students every six school days. I choose a couple of students each class that really stand out and fill out this letter, make a copy for myself for record-keeping, and I send it home. It shows the homeroom teachers that you are managing behavior positively on an individual basis as well as giving students something to look forward to. (Not to mention parents appreciate receiving these, especially when they may not receive positive contact regularly.) I try to make sure every student receives one by the end of the year. *It has all of my information on it, which can obviously be altered to fit your position.*

In Art Club I aim to make use of Choice Based Art. This year I am going to have students use this form to propose their idea and work through the creative problem solving adventure. It can also be used for self and teacher assessment. I borrowed the formatting of someone else's worksheet. Thank you for your format. Wish me luck! If you want to try it out too, I am interested in comparing experiences with you throughout the year. :)

This year I am tweaking my reward system a bit. I am calling it Earn Your Art Stars. I have edited a matrix resource from the Exchange (I forgot who posted... but the layout belongs to someone on here). I altered it to fit my needs... So thank you. Our school wide motto is "Work Respect Belong". This is my way of tying in our school wide theme into the Art Room.
