These resources are just about everything you need to teach a 4 week unit on self portraits. Proportion is heavily discussed. Students also learn about Picasso's styles and how he liked to change proportion in his portraits, yet retain unity through his color choices. Final projects involve creating correctly proportioned self portraits and using colored chalk to incorporate a unifying color scheme.

This is a simple paper plate weaving I did with 4th grade last year. It could easily be done with older students as well. The kids really loved it (you could hear a pin drop when they were working). It took a few more lessons than I would have liked but the results were well worth the wait!
