Book Cover Design

Using photographs the student takes and Photoshop, students will redesign a classic book cover.

THE PLAN
5 sessions; 70 minutes per session

Students will be able to use design skills to rethink the cover of a classic novel and update it for a modern audience.

Students will use elements and principles effectively.

Students will understand the basic working of Adobe Photoshop

Students will be able to take their own photographs to use as references for a specific purpose.

This lesson assumes the teacher has already taught basic digital editing skills.

Teacher introduces the concept of book cover design by showing examples.

Teacher discusses the career of book cover designer and what it entails.

Teacher lets students pick from a list of books to redesign the cover for.

Students sketch out ideas for their book cover.

Students use cameras to take the photographs they need to create their sketches photographically.

Students edit their photos in a digital editing software to add text and manipulate the images.
