Alphabet Patterns

Students will collect patterns out of magazines and catalogs to create the letters of the alphabet.

THE PLAN
3 sessions; 25 minutes per session

1. SWBAT create letters from patterns ripped out of magazines.

1. Glue
2. Scissors
3. Paper
4. Crayons or Markers
5. Magazines & Catalogs

1. Students will select a letter from the alphabet. (the goal is for the whole class to complete the alphabet together)
2. Cut out patterns from magazine. (students will bring old magazines from home for the whole class to use)
3. Glue patterns to paper.
4. Once the glue is dry, draw your letter and cut it out.
5. Paste letter onto another sheet of paper.
6. Using crayons or markers color the paper.

If there is not enough students in the class to complete the whole alphabet, have students pair off into groups to finish the rest.

    What a great idea! Towards the end of the year, my Pre-K students loved cutting out pictures from magazines. It made them feel accomplished that they could cut a variety of shapes.
