The Three Musicians Collage

THE PLAN
1 session; 50 minutes per session

1. SWBAT identify a Picasso cubist painting
2. SWBAT define shape
3. SWBAT identify color
4. SWBAT define collage
5. SWBAT define cubist

1. Copy of Picasso's "The Three Musicians."
2. Assorted colors of construction paper
3. 1 Large Black 12x18" construction paper per student
4. Scissors
5. Pencils, Markers, Crayons
6. Glue
7. Sketchbook/sketch paper

1. Students will sketch out the three musicians and their instruments based on Picasso's painting.
2. Students will plan colors for each shape on their sketch
3. Students will cut out construction paper shapes for one musician at a time and temporarily place on large black paper.
4. After students have cut shapes for all 3 musicians, they will move the shapes around to make a cubist style collage. At this point, students may decide to add other shapes to balance composition.
5. When placement is approved, students will glue each construction paper shape in place.
6. Students may decide to frame the collage with a contrasting piece of construction paper.

Student work is assessed by a 4 point scale:

4. Work habit
