1. Introduction
-Overview of animals from country/culture of study (we were learning about India this year)
-Talk about patterns from that culture
2. Students draw animals and patterns with pencil, no value, just lines and shapes
-Pattern can be applied in a border, in the body of the animal, or around the animal. Students choose or come up with their own solution.
3. Trace line drawings with sharpie
4. Choose tissue
-either precut squares or cut tissue to fit shape of animals
-colors can be applied in a random pattern or to match realistic colors of animal
5. Apply tissue to drawings
-wet paper with paintbrush, apply tissue, smooth down with brush
6. Remove tissue when dry

Did the student create a recognizable animal drawing?
Did the student effectively utilize pattern?

Bleeding tissue was a huge hit with students and we got lots of compliments on artwork in the hallway. You can also apply the tissue with mod podge or watered down glue to keep the tissue attached, adding texture, and yielding a brighter color.
