Greek Gods and Goddesses Maks

Students learn about the history of Greek Masks and then create their own. Simultaneously in history class students have been learning about Greece and gods and goddesses.

THE PLAN
SWBAT create a Greek mask using various paper techniques.

SWBAT demonstrate balance.


1.1 Identify and describe all the elements of art found in selected works of art (e.g., color, shape/form, line, texture, space, value).
2.4 Create increasingly complex original works of art reflecting personal choices and increased technical skill.
1.2 Describe how balance is effectively used in a work of art (e.g., symmetrical, asymmetrical, radial).
3.1 Research and discuss the role of the visual arts in selected periods of history, using a variety of resources (both print and electronic).
5.1 Research how art was used in theatrical productions in the past and in the present.

DAY 1:

Anticipatory Set: Video on Greek drama.

Hand out worksheet on Greek Masks, have kids design a character.

Day 2: Demo how to create mask base, nose, and mouth. Kids create.

Day 3: Demo how to make eyes, eye lids, and hair if time. Kids create.

Day 4-5: Demo different paper folding techniques. IE. folding, curling, etc. Students continue on masks, adding decorations to create their god or goddess.

Student's will be assessed on attached rubric.
