Lichtenstein inspired comic paintings

Student choose one inch square from newspaper comics and enlarge to eight inches square, then paint with neon tempera.

THE PLAN
4 sessions; 60 minutes per session

SWBAT enlarge images but maintain proportion.
SWBAT learn about the art of Roy Lichtenstein.
SWBAT learn about the Pop Art movement in America.

1.Cardstock, cut 8 by 8 inches
2. Pencils and erasers
3. Newspaper comics
4. Neon tempera
5. Black sharpies

1. Students read about the life and artwork of Roy Lichtenstein.
2. Students work in small groups to create a poster of the top five facts to remember about Lichtenstein.
3. Students choose one inch squares from newspaper comics to redraw in their sketchbooks.
4. Students draw two inch, then four inch square sketches of the same image.
5. Students draw eight inch copy on cardstock.
6. Students choose three neon tempera colors to paint their image.
7. Students trace over lines with black sharpies.


Note: Black sharpie dries out quickly when drawn over tempera, so be prepared to do it in steps or use multiple sharpies.
